The Duke FACE project has now entered its final phase - the Final Harvest. CO2 enrichment was discontinued on October 31, 2010.

The Final Harvest involves the collection of all biomass from the plots for analysis. Half of each plot will be harvested initially, while monitoring will continue in the other half. The gerneral timeline is as follows:

Fall 2010 - allometry pine branch sampling, hardwood SLA sampling, <2cm DBH hardwood, 2-8cm hardwood and standing dead biomass collection;

Feb/Mar 2011 - hardwoods >8cm DBH and pines harvest;

Apr/May 2011 - taproot harvest.

Harvested material is availabale upon request. This file describes the material currently available, and will be updated as the harvest proceeds.

We are greatly indebted to 150 students and two teachers of the six AP Environmental Science classes, Jordan High School, and six students and their teacher from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, both of Durham, North Carolina, for their tremendous help harvesting and processing plant material in Fall, 2010.

A list of the students' names can be found here.

A voicethread presentation by the NCSSM students about their experience can be found here.
